Can I give my car back to the dealership?

I have really bad credit from my previous marriage, and about a year and a half ago I got a car from a buy here pay here no credit check dealership. Everything has been fine, save that the car has problems that I didn't know about at the time. Right now I am in some financial difficulties and on top of it, the alternator is dying in the car and I can't afford to get it fixed. Can I just give the car back to the dealership? I don't want any money back, I just need to get my finances in order again.
